SPRITE – ZN
This car was built in 1960 in the UK and shipped as CKD to Blackheath, Cape Town where it was assembled. It was supplied to a Durban dealer and registered in 1961.
The first owner was John Boyce (late husband of Anne), a member of the VCC in KZN, and the original owners handbook has his signature. The last owner was Colin Downie, also a VCC member, who ran it for about 25 years. I bought it in 2003.
Originally yellow, it spent some 30 years wearing red but was restored to yellow. All major components are original but have been overhauled where necessary from 2004 onwards. It has been used locally as a runabout, mostly weekends.
An overhauled 1100cc motor, with slightly larger carbs and a new exhaust system were fitted in late 2007 to improve driveability. The gearbox was overhauled. Other details include:
SPRITE – ZN personalized number Spare fan belt, Magazines, Special Tuning Handbook Side screens, Tonneau, Photocopied old workshop manual, Soft top, New battery, Original Drivers Handbook, New tyres (5)
The car did well in Concourse judging at VCC KZN in 2006, and has been complimented by enthusiasts on its originality and condition.
